Senior Scientist, Chemical Process Development (Biotechnology)

Location: On Campus in Cambridge, MA, United States; 10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Base salary: $138,000–$184,500 per year.

What you will do

• Set up equipment, conduct laboratory experiments, analyze data, and write reports and procedures.
• Define experimental objectives, prepare experimental designs and plans, and develop scalable batch and continuous chemical processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients.
• Mentor junior scientists and build external collaborations to design experiments and interpret data.
• Evaluate new technologies relevant to Chemical Process Development activities.
• Support process technology transfers to external development and manufacturing organizations and manage contract manufacturing interactions.
• Manage equipment and instrumentation, including regular maintenance and repairs.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry and 4+ years of industry experience; or a research-thesis MS degree in Chemistry and 5+ years of industry experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and 7+ years of industry experience.
• Hands-on experience in laboratory chemical synthesis and isolation/separation processes, with familiarity with analytical instrumentation for tracking reaction and process performance.
• Familiarity with mechanistic modeling and online or in-situ Process Analytical Technology.
• Experience collecting and analyzing data-rich experiments from laboratory reactors with data acquisition and control features.
• Strong background in chemical synthesis and experience with plant unit operations and novel manufacturing technologies.
• Experience reviewing technical and cGMP-related documents, including batch records and process development reports.
• Experience working with contract manufacturing facilities and managing technical transfers.
• Scientific track record demonstrated through publications and presentations at scientific conferences.
• Experience as a technical development team member on cross-functional teams progressing assets from research and development into manufacturing.

Nice to have

• Experience with peptide and/or oligonucleotide synthesis and/or purification.
