Biological Scientist (Drug Discovery)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States; work in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases BSL-3 screening laboratory at the National Institutes of Health.

Salary: $100,000–$110,000 USD annual base compensation.

What you will do

• Coordinate drug screening projects, establish deadlines and assignments, monitor progress, and prepare status reports, memos, presentations, and project materials.
• Coordinate compound delivery and track domestic and international shipments, including delayed shipments.
• Collaborate with NCATS investigators on project timelines, shared resources, and deliverables in the BSL-3 screening laboratory.
• Perform high-throughput screening against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other approved microorganisms of therapeutic relevance.
• Operate automated laboratory and imaging systems, including BioMek Fx, ECHO, BioTek and Certus liquid handlers, Opera Phenix, Cytomat, Pherastar FSX, Viaflo, and associated microplate readers.
• Perform RNA and DNA isolation, gene cloning, transcriptional profiling, SOP development, screening-results database generation, personnel training, and monthly laboratory update presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.
• Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and methods of a scientific specialty or subspecialty and related disciplines, including biology, microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, drug discovery, or biochemistry.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
