Director of Software Engineering, CPBU (Storage)

Location: Primarily in-office at the Santa Clara, California office; work from the office is expected except during PTO, work travel, or other approved leave.

Annual base salary: $263,000–$395,000 USD; the role may also be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.

What you will do

• Lead a 20+ person engineering organization responsible for FlashBlade’s foundational metadata infrastructure, resource allocation, and system configuration layers.
• Direct engineering work to ensure zero-downtime reliability and optimized performance at massive scale.
• Advance an early-stage data reduction capability into a core product asset.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives to converge shared infrastructure across flagship product lines, including architectural dependencies and rigorous testing.
• Coach engineering managers, mentor technical staff, and build a culture of accountability and continuous operational improvement.
• Define and enforce reliability standards, automated testing practices, and technical debt management.

Requirements

• Proven experience directing multiple engineering teams through subordinate managers, stabilizing complex organizations, and developing leadership talent.
• Substantial experience with systems software, distributed systems, or storage infrastructure.
• Ability to analyze complex situations across functional areas, build consensus in sensitive situations, and negotiate technical direction with Product Management and Architecture partners.
• Experience managing enterprise infrastructure health, including resource budgeting, performance requirements, and strategic testing frameworks where correctness is non-negotiable.
• Ability to work primarily from the Santa Clara, California office in compliance with company policies.
