Intermediate Cloud & Systems Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, applicants must live in British Columbia; preference given to Victoria, BC. In-person attendance is required 2–6 times per year.

Salary: $85,000–$100,00 CAD per year.

What you will do

• Build AI-assisted operational workflows for alert triage, incident summaries, root-cause analysis, runbook maintenance, and repetitive internal requests.
• Run and modernize Linux servers and AWS infrastructure for live games across EC2, ECS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, S3, Route 53, and Systems Manager.
• Manage infrastructure as code, configuration management, Docker and ECS services, and deployment pipelines using Terraform, Chef, Ansible, GitLab CI, AWS CodeDeploy, and Fastlane.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, logging, and production databases, including backups, restore tests, upgrades, replication, and performance troubleshooting.
• Support on-call operations, incident reviews, company IT, access management, VPNs, security patches, MFA, compliance, and AWS cost optimization.
• Document systems clearly and explain technical issues in plain language.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience running production infrastructure in systems administration, IT operations, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
• Linux administration skills and a methodical troubleshooting approach.
• Production AWS experience with EC2, ECS, Lambda, VPC networking, IAM, S3, and CloudWatch.
• Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and load balancing.
• Infrastructure as code, such as Terraform, and scripting in Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Docker and production operation of containerized services.
• Production experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including backups, restores, and upgrades.
• Good operational judgment: testing changes, following review processes, verifying work, and escalating when appropriate.
• Regular hands-on use of AI tools for technical work and the judgment to validate their output.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI agents, LLM-powered tools, or API- and MCP-based automations.
• MongoDB, Redis, or Memcached at scale.
• Chef, Ansible, GitLab CI, AWS CodeDeploy, or Fastlane.
• InfluxDB, Grafana, or Graylog.
• AWS cost optimization, including Savings Plans and Reserved Instances.
• Supporting staff IT for a remote team.
• Experience with games or other always-on consumer services.
