Senior AWS Cloud Application Developer

Location: Hybrid in Trenton, New Jersey, United States; onsite three days per week. Local candidates only. Applicants must already have work authorization that will not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: $90–$100 per hour.

What you will do

• Serve as technical lead for AWS-native service development, establishing coding standards, design patterns, and reference implementations.
• Lead architecture, design, and code reviews; mentor development teams and collaborate with enterprise architects and governance teams.
• Design and develop scalable serverless applications using AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, Amazon EventBridge, and Amazon SQS, including dead letter queue handling.
• Build observable and resilient cloud-native solutions with Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, structured logging, security controls, and secrets management.
• Develop infrastructure as code, maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated testing workflows, and use Git-based development practices.
• Modernize legacy systems by translating stored-procedure business rules, designing resilient integrations and reconciliation processes, and supporting parallel-run testing, migration planning, and production cutovers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years building AWS serverless applications in production.
• Strong experience with AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, Amazon EventBridge, and Amazon SQS.
• Experience implementing dead letter queue strategies and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Aurora PostgreSQL Serverless v2.
• Experience implementing idempotency, retry, and resiliency patterns when integrating with systems of record not owned by the application team.
• Experience extracting and translating business logic from stored procedures or other legacy application components.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
• Experience managing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Experience serving in a technical lead capacity, including architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading modernization efforts involving replacement of legacy transactional systems with parallel-run cutover strategies.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification.
• Experience supporting public sector organizations.
• Experience supporting Family First Act initiatives or other human services and case management platforms.
• Familiarity with MuleSoft and API-led integration architectures.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments requiring strong security and compliance controls.
