Patent Counsel (Biopharmaceuticals)

Location: Hybrid in Rahway, New Jersey or Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; domestic relocation may be required. Some domestic and international travel may be required, approximately 10%.

Salary: $210,400–$331,100 per year for the primary location, plus potential annual bonus and long-term incentive.

What you will do

• Work with R&D and product development teams to identify inventions, conduct patentability assessments, and devise patenting strategies.
• Draft and prosecute global patent applications for products, product candidates, platform technologies, and novel chemical sciences inventions.
• Support development programs across discovery, development, and commercialization, including different therapeutic areas and modalities.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and support oppositions and other proceedings with internal litigation colleagues.
• Support research collaborations, acquisitions, and other business development activities through IP due diligence, IP counseling, and related agreement drafting and negotiation.
• Collaborate with US and European patent attorneys, paralegals, legal operations, local agents, scientific teams, commercial functions, and senior business leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, pharmaceutical, or chemical sciences from an accredited institution.
• Graduation from an accredited US law school.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO.
• Good standing in the bar of at least one state or the District of Columbia.
• Five or more years of attorney experience in a law firm or corporate setting drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical or biological patent applications; time as a practicing patent agent may be considered.
• Strong technical background in chemical or biological sciences.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
