Senior Director, Associate Staff Counsel

Location: Remote, with attendance at the Bethesda, Maryland office as needed; other listed locations include New York City, New York, and Chicago, Illinois. United States work location.

Annual salary: $210,000–$350,000.

What you will do

• Lead, manage, and develop Staff Counsel offices, setting performance expectations and accountability.
• Develop litigation strategies and oversee cases from initiation through trial, settlement, or appeal.
• Manage office budgets, resource allocation, and cost-effective litigation strategies.
• Assess legal exposure, provide risk mitigation recommendations, and ensure compliance with legal and internal policies.
• Serve as the primary contact for internal stakeholders on litigation policies and case handling.
• Implement best practices, tools, technologies, training, and development programs to improve litigation effectiveness.

Requirements

• Active license to practice law in at least one state and maintenance of all required continuing legal education requirements.
• At least 12 years of litigation experience, focused on insurance defense or personal injury; relevant experience in other legal fields may be considered.
• Senior-level management experience.
• Experience managing teams of attorneys and legal support professionals in a multi-office or high-volume environment.
• Ability to manage multiple teams, priorities, and high-stakes legal matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use data analytics for strategic decision-making.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
• High ethical standards and commitment to transparency and accountability.
