Buyer (Manufacturing)

Location: On-site at the manufacturing facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, United States, Monday–Friday.

What you will do

• Plan and execute purchases of materials, products, and services supporting production schedules and company objectives.
• Manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and delivery terms, monitor commodity trends, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Review inventory and demand requirements with Production Planning to support sales plans, production goals, and timely customer shipments.
• Monitor purchase orders, expedite shipments, track supplier pricing, and maintain accurate purchasing data in the ERP system.
• Collaborate with Purchasing, Quality, Accounting, Receiving, and Production Planning to resolve supply, quality, pricing, receiving, and invoicing issues.
• Generate purchasing and supplier-performance reports and support Lean initiatives and continuous process improvement.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of purchasing, buying, inventory control, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong organization and time-management skills.
• Negotiation skills.
• Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
• Ability to establish employment eligibility and successfully complete background checks and required pre-employment testing.
• Ability to work on-site in the Hutchinson, Kansas office and manufacturing facility, including occasional presence on the manufacturing floor with required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to perform the stated office, communication, computer, data-entry, mobility, and occasional light-lifting requirements.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
• CPM or APICS certification.
• 5+ years of material purchasing experience in a Lean manufacturing environment.
