Systems Software Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; on-site role with a work-from-home policy and flexible work hours. Candidates must have a valid visa and work permit to work in Romania.

What you will do

• Develop expertise in NXP processor and microcontroller platforms through training and hands-on work.
• Support board bring-up, software integration, customer application evaluation, technical issue reproduction, and design-in activities.
• Develop, integrate, and debug embedded software and firmware for Linux, Android, and RTOS environments.
• Assist with driver development, middleware integration, software optimization, proof-of-concept applications, demonstrations, and automation tools.
• Perform system-level validation and functional verification of hardware and software, analyzing processors, memory, interfaces, peripherals, boot, security, power management, connectivity, and multimedia.
• Create technical documentation and training materials, document findings, and present results while collaborating with global engineering teams, customers, architects, validation teams, and software and hardware organizations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Recent graduate or up to 2 years of relevant experience.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and understanding of embedded systems fundamentals and computer architecture.
• Knowledge of microprocessors, microcontrollers, or ARM-based architectures.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and software development environments.
• Experience with software debugging techniques and development tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work effectively in a multinational and cross-functional environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with embedded Linux, device drivers, bootloaders, or RTOS operating systems.
• Familiarity with Python or Bash scripting.
• Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I²C, USB, Ethernet, CAN, or PCIe.
• Understanding of hardware schematics and basic electronics concepts.
• Experience with software validation, automated testing, or CI/CD environments.
• Exposure to AI/ML, multimedia, computer vision, connectivity, or security technologies.
• Academic projects, internships, open-source contributions, or embedded systems competitions.
