Functional Safety Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Munich, Germany; hands-on work with mobile robots in industrial environments. A hybrid working model is available for positions where physical presence is dispensable.

What you will do

• Define high-level system requirements and break them down into clear, actionable sub-requirements.
• Conduct hazard and risk analyses and define system boundaries.
• Design and review system architectures with a strong focus on functional safety.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders through the Robotics Safety Chapter.
• Coordinate product certifications with external certification bodies.
• Maintain and implement safety-related development processes, calculate and evaluate system safety performance, and support safety-relevant user documentation.

Requirements

• In-depth understanding of functional safety for machines or vehicles, ideally in mobile robotics.
• Experience working with hardware and software architectures.
• Master’s degree in engineering, natural sciences, or a comparable technical field, plus at least 3 years of professional Functional Safety experience.
• Experience conducting risk assessments according to ISO 12100 and functional safety analyses including FMEDA and FTA.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant mobile robotics standards and regulations: EN ISO 12100, EN ISO 13849, EN 61508, EN ISO 3691-4, EN 1175, EN 60204-1, and Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.
• Comfort working hands-on with mobile robots in industrial environments.
• Independent working style, initiative, and strong self-motivation.
• Confident and fluent communication in both German and English.
