Assistant Project Manager (Retail Construction)

Location: Carlsbad, CA, United States. Onsite at 5600 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Travel to active project sites, including overnight travel, is required as needed.

Salary: USD 80,100–USD 103,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support multiple retail construction projects, relocations, pop-ups, and store remodels from preconstruction handoff through turnover and closeout.
• Develop and track milestones, schedules, deliverables, contractor reports, risks, and potential delays to support on-time store openings.
• Track project costs, commitments, invoices, change orders, forecasts, contingencies, pay applications, and budget alignment.
• Review construction drawings and specifications and support RFIs, submittals, drawing coordination, document control, permitting, approvals, and inspections.
• Coordinate landlords, consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal partners across Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising, IT, Security, Facilities, and Finance.
• Monitor construction sites, manage punch lists, coordinate closeout documentation, and support warranty resolution after turnover.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 4+ years of experience in retail construction, commercial construction, general contracting, architecture, or owner-side project management.
• Knowledge of construction documentation, terminology, sequencing, schedules, and cost management.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with tight and shifting timelines.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, follow-through, written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and escalate project risks.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with appropriate autonomy in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Ability to support critical project activities outside standard business hours when needed for construction and store-opening milestones.
