Financial Analyst IV - Finance/Risk Data Governance

Location: Hybrid, requiring in-office work four days every week at the One M&T Plaza office in Buffalo, New York, United States; some flexibility within the M&T footprint. Candidates requiring current or future visa sponsorship, including F-1 visa holders with CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT, will not be considered.

Salary: $89,600.00–$149,300.00 annual (USD).

What you will do

• Partner with report owners, model owners, data stakeholders, technology teams, and business partners to understand regulatory reporting requirements and implement Finance data governance requirements.
• Conduct independent research and complex analytical projects involving Finance priority data, industry standards, and applicable government regulations.
• Advise senior management on data governance matters and strategic data management objectives.
• Monitor adherence to Finance and enterprise data policies and standards, identify risks and gaps, and coordinate follow-up.
• Develop and maintain governance artifacts such as business and technical metadata, data lineage, data classifications, procedures, and related documentation.
• Build governance reporting, workflow, querying, visualization, and automation tools; lead moderate-scope projects, prepare analytical recommendations, and train or mentor junior team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an associate degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience in data governance, information systems, accounting, auditing, operations, or financial institutions.
• Intermediate knowledge of data management concepts, terminology, roles, and responsibilities.
• Proficiency with modeling, querying, visualization, reporting, and automation tools.
• Ability to conduct complex research and analysis, draw valid conclusions, and communicate recommendations clearly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Expert-level knowledge of data governance and Finance concepts, including Finance priority data use cases and the drivers and trends affecting their governance.
• Ability to follow risk, regulatory, internal control, audit, and regulatory standards and escalate risk-related issues to management.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree such as an MBA, MS, or PhD, or a relevant certification such as CPA, CFA, or CDMP.
• Experience developing or implementing data management or data governance policies, standards, procedures, or controls with limited oversight.
• Experience with metadata, lineage, data quality, issue management, data classification, or governance of regulatory reports and financial models.
• Ability to navigate and retrieve data from databases directly or through APIs, with experience using query languages in big-data or cloud environments.
• Knowledge of regulatory reporting concepts or ability to quickly understand regulatory reports, their purpose, underlying data, and associated requirements.
