Firmware/Software Engineer, Professional II (Embedded)

Location: Hybrid, on-site at the corporate office in Lincolnshire, Illinois, United States, for a minimum of 3 days per week.

Salary: $86,080–$129,120 annual base pay, plus a target performance-based annual cash incentive equal to 10% of base pay.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test firmware for thermal printer products and solutions as part of larger projects.
• Develop and test documentation describing firmware functionality.
• Participate in code reviews, run software tests, review results, and perform root cause analysis.
• Recommend and implement solutions to complex issues while ensuring compliance with quality processes and standards.
• Modify and upgrade existing firmware, improve existing technologies, and apply them to new solutions.
• Develop competency in product frameworks, HALs, Linux kernel drivers, peripheral and network communication, and real-time controls; collaborate with design, test, implementation, and other company functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, such as Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus 2+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in engineering, such as Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with no experience required.
• Significant experience delivering platform product embedded firmware development.
• Proven experience programming in C/C++.

Nice to have

• Development experience with I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, Modbus, WLAN, PWM, ADC, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and other microcontroller peripherals.
• Knowledge of oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, emulators, and other firmware debugging tools.
• Familiarity with electrical interfaces, schematic diagrams, electronic component specifications, and datasheets.
• Understanding of embedded RTOS and POSIX implementation, including scheduling policies, synchronization methods, interrupt service routines, external library integration, filesystems, and memory allocation.
• Experience with stepper motors, networking, MQTT, and security.
• Experience participating in Agile development using Scrum or Kanban.
• Experience with prototype board bring-up, bootloader development, or the ARMCC toolchain.
