Sr Firmware Engineer (SSD)

Location: Rancho Cordova, California, United States; onsite

Salary: USD 128,960–201,500 per year

What you will do

• Develop, review, document, and maintain product source code in C/C++.
• Analyze and develop firmware against internal and customer specifications.
• Perform unit and system-level testing, failure analysis, and debugging during development and validation.
• Develop low-level firmware, system architectures, operating systems, and device architectures with hardware and ASIC design teams.
• Contribute across multiple firmware disciplines and the full SSD architecture.
• Translate product requirements into development and validation plans, coordinate engineering priorities, and support Agile/Kanban delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 7+ years of software or firmware development experience in embedded systems using C/C++.
• Experience developing embedded firmware in a real-time operating system environment with hardware and software interactions.
• Experience with firmware development environments, including compilers, debuggers, emulators, and toolchains.
• Ability to listen, understand, and respond professionally to partner questions and issues while building trust.
• Excellent written and presentation skills.
• Self-starting and effective multitasking abilities, with strong influence and leadership skills.
• Experience working in teams and/or taking features through different stages of the product lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Experience in the storage industry, including SSDs or enterprise storage.
• Embedded development techniques using hardware and firmware tools.
• Structured software development practices, analytical problem solving, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Enterprise storage interface protocols such as SATA, SAS, PCIe, and NVMe.
• SSD or enterprise storage security protocols and techniques such as Opal, ESSC, and AES.
• Software and firmware development processes, workflow, and continuous integration validation.
• DevOps process strategies, tools, and execution from code check-in through Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.
• Project planning, estimation, and risk management.
• Customer requirements definition, clarification, and technical assessment.
• Development of unit tests for code coverage and quality validation.
