TL;DR
Systems Support & Integration Engineer (USV) (robotics/embedded systems): Integrating, troubleshooting, testing, and fielding autonomous unmanned surface vessels with an accent on Linux systems, networking, electronics, sensors, and onboard hardware. Focus on diagnosing root causes across software, configuration, power, wiring, and system interfaces, and validating vessel readiness for testing and deployment.
Location: Fort Pierce, FL, USA; on-site/in person. Up to 50% travel, including customer sites, test ranges, partner locations, and potential OCONUS travel.
Company
Blue Ops designs, builds, and fields autonomous unmanned surface vessels for defense and national security customers and operates under hirify.global.
What you will do
Diagnose and resolve faults across onboard compute, sensors, communications, cameras, radar, GNSS, autopilot hardware, vessel networks, power systems, and supporting electronics.
Troubleshoot hardware, software, configuration, networking, wiring, power, sensor, and system-integration issues to identify root causes and implement durable corrective actions.
Verify system communication, configuration, device health, service status, logs, and operational readiness before tests, demonstrations, deliveries, customer events, and deployments.
Use Linux terminals, SSH, command-line utilities, logs, system services, multimeters, wiring inspections, and hardware replacement during integration and testing.
Support vessel checkout and hands-on testing aboard vessels, outdoors, dockside, and in shop or laboratory environments.
Requirements
1–4 years of experience in systems support, integration, field engineering, test engineering, robotics, embedded systems, IT/OT, or a related technical role.
Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, networking, power, wiring, and configuration.
Working familiarity with Linux, SSH, command-line tools, logs, and basic system configuration.
Basic networking knowledge, including IP addressing, Ethernet, DHCP, and static IP configuration.
Ability to use a multimeter and troubleshoot basic low-voltage DC electrical systems.
Ability to read wiring diagrams, network diagrams, technical manuals, and interface documentation.
Comfort working physically on electronics and equipment aboard small vessels, including crawling, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, and working in confined or awkward spaces.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. The role involves ITAR/EAR-controlled technology and requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence without sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization.
Ability to travel up to 50%, lift up to approximately 50 pounds, safely board and move around boats and docks, and work outdoors in marine environments.
Nice to have
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, IT, or a similar field.
Experience with USVs, UAS, UGVs, robotics, marine electronics, defense, aerospace, automotive, or other complex integrated systems.
Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or other embedded Linux systems.
Familiarity with radar, cameras, GNSS/INS, Starlink, RF communications, CAN, NMEA 2000, or serial interfaces.
Experience with ArduPilot, ArduRover, PX4, MAVLink, Pixhawk, Wireshark, or similar troubleshooting tools.
Experience with field testing, demonstrations, commissioning, or deployed systems.
Culture & Benefits
Hands-on work across office, laboratory, vessel, dockside, outdoor, and test environments.
Early starts, extended days, and occasional weekend work may be required around test events.
