Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid, with 2–3 days per week in the downtown Toronto office.

What you will do

• Build and ship platform features across backend services, APIs, and Next.js interfaces used by internal teams and clients.
• Develop AI agent capabilities including prompt assembly, tool and function calling, streaming responses, and conversation state.
• Integrate real-time voice and messaging channels across telephony, SMS, and web.
• Design data models and migrations with consistency and safe-change practices.
• Build background jobs and outbound processing with clear retry and failure handling.
• Instrument and debug services end to end using logging, metrics, and tracing; contribute ideas and prototypes to the roadmap.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience, including production code shipped and supported.
• Strong Python experience, including asynchronous programming with asyncio, FastAPI, or similar technologies.
• Experience with React and TypeScript.
• Working knowledge of relational databases, PostgreSQL, SQL, and migrations.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs, professionally or through side projects.
• Working knowledge of Docker and a major cloud platform; Azure is preferred.
• Ability to investigate problems by reading documentation, testing hypotheses, and asking effective questions.

Nice to have

• Experience with Next.js.
• Experience with real-time media or telephony, including WebRTC, SIP, programmable voice, or SMS APIs.
• Experience with LLM evaluation or agent frameworks.
• Experience working within data residency or compliance requirements.
