Software Engineer - Agent Development (AI)

Location: Hybrid, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Base salary: $83,000–$120,000 plus corporate bonus

What you will do

• Design, implement, and test software components for agentic systems, coding-agent workflows, and AI-assisted engineering experiences.
• Build integrations with developer tools, source-control systems, issue-tracking platforms, APIs, and data services.
• Develop prompts, tools, workflows, and evaluation harnesses for agents that plan, implement, test, and document software changes.
• Create unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; evaluate agent behavior, correctness, reliability, security, and failure scenarios.
• Improve agent context, retrieval, feedback, and orchestration while reducing unnecessary model and tool usage.
• Collaborate with engineering, data, architecture, product, and security partners to investigate defects, analyze root causes, document designs, and deliver solutions.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is accepted.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, APIs, testing, debugging, version control, and other software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience developing services, automation, integrations, or developer tools in a collaborative engineering environment.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines, batch and streaming processing, and data modeling.
• Proficiency with SQL and familiarity with data warehouses or lakehouses, workflow orchestration tools, and data quality and observability practices.
• Familiarity with large language models, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, or agentic workflows.
• Experience using AI coding assistants or coding agents, including inspecting, testing, and correcting generated code.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and learning skills; ability to work with ambiguity, decompose problems, and deliver incremental improvements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Hiring process

• Within one year, the role is expected to own significant features or components and establish repeatable approaches for agent evaluation, debugging, feedback, and safe deployment.
