Autonomy Engineering Manager (Behavior Prediction and Intent)

Location: Remote or hybrid, based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Hybrid employees work remotely and from an office or site at an agreed cadence, typically 2–3 days per week or 8 days per month in the office; remote employees work primarily from home or an alternative workspace. Moderate travel required (11%–25%).

Salary: $190,000–$250,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Set the strategic direction and execute trajectory and intent prediction systems for the Behavior team.
• Lead the evolution of prediction architectures, balancing classical robotics and data-driven machine learning approaches.
• Partner with Behavior, Modeling, Perception, Remote Assistance, infrastructure, and tooling teams on roadmaps and delivery.
• Integrate safety metrics, risk assessments, and Operational Design Domain requirements into testing and delivery milestones.
• Use root cause analyses to improve the backlog and provide engineering escalation support for field issues.
• Enforce code quality and design review standards while growing, onboarding, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience managing technical teams or leading technical project teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field such as Robotics, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience leading and managing a team of at least 5 people.
• Ability to mentor technical team members and develop their technical and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working cross-functionally with engineering teams, operations, and external partners.
• Experience delivering projects with high uncertainty on time.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Data-driven approach and ability to create and maintain team progress metrics and KPIs.
• Advanced knowledge of Jira, Jira reporting, and dashboards; proficiency with BI tools such as AWS QuickSight or Tableau for scalable operational dashboards and reporting.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of experience managing technical teams or leading technical project teams.
• Master’s degree or another advanced degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Ability to interpret large-scale fleet data and insights to validate problem framing and support informed decisions.
• Experience with autonomous vehicles or other robotic platforms deployed commercially.
• Experience with startups and organizational scaling.
