Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Remote in Portugal

What you will do

• Collaborate with Product Management and Design to discover customer problems and create pragmatic technical solutions.
• Own capacity planning, prioritization, trade-offs, delivery, and follow-up from discovery through release.
• Coordinate with engineering teams and cross-functional partners to manage dependencies and deliver features and improvements.
• Guide architecture, system design, scalability, performance, maintainability, and technical-debt investments.
• Establish practical quality standards and sustainable engineering practices focused on reliable delivery.
• Coach engineers through feedback and development conversations while connecting their work to customer outcomes and growth plans.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, developing engineers, and taking accountability for delivery.
• Collaborative approach, strong work ethic, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Product-focused mindset with the ability to understand customer problems and partner with Product and Design on technical solutions.
• Strong backend development experience with TypeScript or another strongly typed language.
• Experience with SQL databases and Nest.js or similar frameworks, including Spring Boot or ASP.NET Core.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, performance tuning, architectural trade-offs, and technical debt.
• Ability to create structure in a growing organization while keeping processes pragmatic and outcome-focused.
• Passion for technology, entrepreneurial mindset, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Technology environment includes TypeScript across frontend and backend, Svelte transitioning to React, Node.js with Nest.js, MySQL, Kubernetes, and AWS.

• Experience with private markets, fintech, highly regulated industries, or document processing.
