Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid setup with 3 days per week in the office and up to 6 remote calendar weeks per year.

What you will do

• Collaborate with Product Management and Design on problem discovery and pragmatic technical solutions.
• Own capacity planning, priorities, trade-offs, delivery, and follow-up from discovery through release.
• Coordinate dependencies across engineering teams and cross-functional partners.
• Guide system design, scalability, performance, maintainability, architecture, and technical-debt investments.
• Establish sustainable quality standards and pragmatic engineering practices.
• Coach engineers through feedback and development conversations while connecting their work to customer outcomes.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including developing engineers and taking accountability for delivery.
• Collaborative approach, strong work ethic, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Product-focused mindset with the ability to understand customer problems and partner with Product and Design on effective technical solutions.
• Strong backend development experience with TypeScript or another strongly typed language.
• Experience with SQL databases and Nest.js or similar frameworks such as Spring Boot or ASP.NET Core.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, performance tuning, architectural trade-offs, and technical debt.
• Ability to create structure in a growing organisation while keeping processes pragmatic and outcome-focused.

Hiring process

• People team interview, followed by a hiring manager interview focused on product culture, collaboration, ownership, self-awareness, and quality standards.
• Technical system-design interview with two engineers and a leadership case interview with Product and Design.
• Final interview with the VP of Engineering and VP of Product; optional meet-and-greet with future cross-functional teammates.
