Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Recoveries)

Location: Remote Spain; candidates must be based in Spain. Visa sponsorship is available.

Base pay: €103,000–€139,000 per year.

What you will do

• Set the team’s technical strategy on a year-long horizon and connect it to critical business-impacting projects.
• Shape the Recoveries platform, including recovery strategies, customer-facing experiences, financial integrations, and partner integrations.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives that improve reliability, scalability, data integrity, and reconciliation.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Own operational readiness through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support.
• Set code review and design standards, share technical knowledge, and develop engineering talent through feedback and guidance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of total experience as a software engineer.
• Proficiency designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using technologies such as Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and operating correctness-sensitive batch, asynchronous, or data-processing systems, including scheduled workflows, backfills, reconciliation, observability, and robust failure handling.
• Experience architecting solutions across complex systems and organizational boundaries, including backend services and customer-facing applications.
• Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through a defined technical and execution plan.
• Ability to write high-quality, understandable code and work from low-level language idioms through the architecture of large systems.
• Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and incorporate feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
