Senior Design Manager (Construction)

What you will do

• Lead multidisciplinary design teams from feasibility and concept design through construction and commissioning.
• Develop design management strategies, programmes, deliverable schedules, and design approval processes.
• Coordinate engineers, specialist designers, subcontractors, consultants, clients, regulators, utility companies, and construction teams.
• Monitor design progress, compliance, quality, risks, interfaces, document control, and project milestones.
• Drive value engineering, constructability, safety, programme efficiency, cost effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical leadership during construction, manage temporary and permanent works interfaces, and implement BIM and digital engineering requirements where applicable.

Requirements

• Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience managing multidisciplinary design teams on major construction or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, design management processes, and project delivery.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, including mentoring and developing design managers and design coordinators.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication abilities, with commercial awareness and contract understanding.
• Project planning and programme management expertise, including the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Technical problem-solving, decision-making, risk management, and change control skills.
• Knowledge of BIM processes and digital engineering tools.
• Ability to ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, promote Safety by Design, apply quality management processes, and support environmental and sustainability objectives.

Nice to have

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or progress towards chartership.
• Experience working under NEC contracts.
