Hardware Board Design Engineer (High-Speed Hardware)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; hybrid schedule with at least 2 days per week in the Sunnyvale office.

Base salary: USD 140,500–285,000 annually in California, United States. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Participate in product feasibility, definition, architecture, and development of high-end routing platforms from concept through mass production and customer support.
• Own hardware design and testing, including specifications, schematics, bills of materials, prototype lab bring-up, maintenance, test plans, and reports.
• Collaborate with signal integrity, power, thermal, PCB, mechanical, DFM/DFT, laboratory, software, test, and diagnostics engineering teams.
• Review and approve validation reports and support EDVT, MDVT, NEBS, HALT, safety, and EMC activities.
• Define manufacturing and development diagnostics, support component selection and qualification, and debug implementations with external suppliers.
• Train and support manufacturing, customer support, and sustaining teams while reporting project status to the program manager and engineering lead.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• 8+ years of board design experience.
• Solid proficiency in electrical circuit and schematic design.
• Strong experience designing boards with embedded Intel or AMD CPUs, including high-speed memory interfaces such as DDR5.
• Strong experience designing and debugging boards with PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, and clock interfaces.
• Knowledge of the role of BIOS and UEFI in CPU board design, bring-up, and testing.
• Knowledge of system design considerations involving software, firmware, PCB layout, signal integrity, mechanical, thermal, power, EMI compliance, manufacturability, testability, MTBF, and COGS.
• Awareness of PCB stack-up techniques for multilayer, high-speed printed circuit boards.
• Hands-on experience and skilled debugging with laboratory measurement equipment, including high-speed oscilloscopes.
• Strong interest in building hardware projects, solving challenging problems, and understanding how systems work; excellent communication skills in a cross-functional environment.

Nice to have

• Python programming and scripting skills.
• Familiarity with FPGA operation, debugging, and reading Verilog code.
• Knowledge of CPU subsystem security, including PQC, TPM, hardware root of trust, secure boot, and attestation.
• Hands-on experience with PCIe protocol analyzers and I2C debugging equipment.
• Experience with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and Cadence System Capture.
• Experience in a Unix/Linux environment.
