TL;DR
Core Autonomy Software (C++) Intern (Automotive): Building and integrating C++ software for the Aurora Driver, onboard compute, robotics middleware, autonomy integration, and real-time routing systems with an accent on latency, memory, reliability, and real-time constraints. Focus on analyzing system performance, designing system software, and delivering production-quality software for self-driving vehicles.

Location: Mountain View, California, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States; office attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

Salary: $47–$58 per hour, depending on location and whether the intern is pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree.

Company

hirify.global develops self-driving technology for mobility and logistics, including the hirify.global Driver.

What you will do

  • Write and integrate C++ software running onboard the hirify.global Driver under real-time constraints.
  • Work on system software architecture, robotics middleware, autonomy integration, or real-time routing and graph systems depending on team placement.
  • Analyze latency, memory, and reliability tradeoffs beyond unit-test results.
  • Use performance analysis and instrumentation tools to diagnose real system behavior.
  • Partner with full-time engineers to deliver production-quality software rather than prototype-only code.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong C++ and general systems-programming skills.
  • Some real-time and/or embedded systems exposure.
  • Working knowledge of graph algorithms and core data structures.
  • Ability to reason about latency, memory, and reliability constraints.
  • Experience targeting a Linux-like development environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Linux kernel internals and/or kernel driver development.
  • Experience with performance analysis tools, such as eBPF-based tooling.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work alongside experienced engineers on complex self-driving and robotics problems.
  • In-person collaboration is emphasized, with office attendance expected at least 3 days per week and up to 5 days depending on operational needs.
  • Work in a culture centered on integrity, ambitious goals, teamwork, safety, and inclusion.
  • Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans.
