SBA Underwriter

Location: Hoover, Alabama, United States

Salary: $80,924.25–$103,070.00 USD annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary incentive plan.

What you will do

• Review assigned SBA applications after the pre-underwriting review and evaluate accuracy, completeness, and eligibility under SBA Standard Operating Procedures.
• Analyze financial statements, repayment capacity, financial metrics, business and personal credit reports, and industry and market data for borrowers, affiliates, and guarantors.
• Identify and mitigate risks and prepare detailed credit memoranda covering loan terms, closing conditions, financial and business analysis, and risk mitigation.
• Handle applications with total credit exposure greater than $350,000 and remain eligible for individual lending authority up to $750,000.
• Participate in pre-flight discussions with SBA Bankers, Sales Managers, and Credit Leadership.
• Confirm work performed by SBA Underwriter I and provide mentoring and support to SBA Underwriter I and II.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Five years of experience in SBA, commercial loan underwriting, financial analysis, or portfolio management.
• Ability to identify and voice issues, prioritize work, and operate with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent working knowledge of systems used by the department.
