CAE Body Structure Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid work policy with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote; must be able to report to the local office.

What you will do

• Capture information from internal and external sources, build and run analytical models, interpret results, and present virtual assessments and CAE reports.
• Build, debug, update, and execute FEA models and plans for complete trimmed vehicle structures, including BIW, chassis, interior structure, fixed glass, bumpers, modules, and closures.
• Assess new and existing designs against performance requirements using FEA and other analysis methods, recommending mass- and cost-efficient design solutions.
• Collaborate with Product Development Teams, body SMT, validation, structure integration, N&V, safety integration, and release engineers to share results and validate requirements.
• Lead CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones, coordinate virtual design assessments, and provide technical guidance to Body Structure PDTs.
• Develop root-cause analysis methods, topology optimization approaches, CAE techniques, process automation, and modeling software and solver enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Three years of experience as a CAE Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or in a related role.
• Three years of experience with linear analysis, including NASTRAN and OPTISTRUCT.
• Three years of experience with non-linear analysis, including LS DYNA.
• Three years of experience using material properties as inputs to CAE analysis and CAE modeling tools.
• Three years of experience with quasistatic non-linear analysis, NVH including modal and optimization, durability analysis, and dynamic crash simulation.
• Three years of experience building FEA models from CAD solid models.
• Three years of experience creating CAE geometry or constructing and updating FEA models from NX math data.
