Principal Scientist, Pharmaceutical Analytical Sciences

Location: Rahway, New Jersey, United States of America. Onsite role; flexible work arrangements are not applicable. Travel requirements: 10%. Visa sponsorship: available. Domestic relocation is indicated.

Base salary: $156,900–$247,000 per year, plus annual bonus and long-term incentive if applicable.

What you will do

• Lead analytical teams developing medicines based on small molecules, peptides, mRNA, oligonucleotides, and bioconjugates from early development through commercialization.
• Partner cross-functionally to design scientific studies that guide drug product and process development.
• Define and implement end-to-end analytical control strategies for clinical supplies under good manufacturing practices, including method development, validation, and specification setting.
• Develop and apply analytical characterization, imaging, data analysis, and novel technologies for product and process characterization.
• Author and support IND, IMPD, NDA, BLA, and worldwide marketing application documents and respond to agency questions.
• Mentor junior analytical scientists, represent the function in governance forums, manage risks, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Requirements

• PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field plus at least 7 years of pharmaceutical industry experience; or a Master’s degree plus at least 10 years; or a Bachelor’s degree plus at least 12 years.
• Deep technical and strategic expertise in analytical control strategy development and execution.
• Ability to design, execute, and/or direct development and qualification of release, characterization, and stability assays for clinical trial materials and product and process development.
• Strong written and oral communication, leadership, interpersonal, technical problem-solving, initiative, creativity, and innovation skills.
• Ability to work independently on analytical methodology development and cross-functionally on method transfer, optimization, documentation, and program deadlines.
• Experience authoring and reviewing internal technical reports, regulatory filing sections such as IND and BLA documents, and external scientific publications.
• Demonstrated mentoring, talent development, matrix management, and peer-to-peer coaching experience.
• Proven external scientific engagement through publications and presentations.
• Ability to deliver complex objectives under aggressive timelines in a rapidly changing environment.

Nice to have

• Hands-on chromatography method development, analysis, and troubleshooting, including LC or GC.
• Experience with advanced analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry or dissolution.
• Experience developing and characterizing small or large molecules, mRNA, antibody-drug conjugates, or associated drug products.
• Established scientific reputation supported by publications and external presentations.
• Experience with high-throughput or data-rich experimentation, or data science.
