Director, Corporate Communications (Internal Communications)

Location: Based in Toronto or Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

What you will do

• Define and lead the global internal communications strategy, translating company strategy, purpose, priorities, and values into clear narratives and messaging frameworks.
• Own the enterprise communications calendar, roadmap, internal channels, platforms, governance, content management, standards, and approval workflows.
• Lead change, issues, and crisis communications for major initiatives, organizational changes, and transformation programs.
• Advise Executive Leadership Team members, including the CHRO and CIO, and develop town halls, all-hands meetings, leadership updates, listening sessions, presentations, and talking points.
• Partner with HR, Marketing, and IT on employee engagement, culture, benefits, talent programs, sustainability communications, and internal platform optimization, including AI opportunities.
• Define reach, understanding, and engagement metrics; manage budgets; and lead, coach, and develop a high-performing internal communications team.

Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive experience in internal or corporate communications, including senior leadership roles in a large, global, or matrixed organization.
• Experience advising C-suite and senior executives as a trusted advisor, challenging assumptions, influencing decisions, and shaping communications strategy.
• Proven experience building and leading enterprise-wide internal communications strategies connecting colleagues to company strategy, purpose, and values.
• Strong experience partnering with HR leaders on employee engagement, culture, organizational change, benefits, and other people programs.
• Experience planning and delivering executive town halls, all-hands meetings, and large-scale engagement events in virtual and in-person formats.
• Hands-on experience owning internal channels and platforms, including intranet strategy, governance, and content management.
• Experience leading change and issues communications, with sound judgment under pressure and tight timelines.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills across executive voices, audiences, and formats; a data-driven approach using surveys, analytics, and employee feedback.
• Experience leading and developing a high-performing team; experience in the technology sector or the ability to quickly learn and communicate complex technical topics.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or a related field.
