Director, Engineering Operations & Strategy (AI)

Location: New York, New York, United States; other locations include Los Angeles, California, United States and Seattle, Washington, United States. Corporate team members must work on-site at least four days a week.

Base salary: $233,000–$270,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Own shared engineering processes covering hiring workflows, onboarding, training, and cross-team alignment.
• Lead operational problem-solving and deliver simple, actionable solutions in ambiguous, fast-moving situations.
• Direct and manage a $50M to $100M+ P&L budget and coordinate resources with corporate objectives.
• Forecast hardware and services spending for critical vendors such as AWS and Twilio, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Lead strategic decisions including M&A due diligence, major vendor migrations, and other high-stakes initiatives with senior executives.
• Own engineering vendor management, including contract negotiations, renewals, performance accountability, and daily relationships.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in high-intensity, rigorous environments and 2+ years of hands-on software engineering or similar engineering experience.
• Track record of persistently solving difficult problems and delivering outcomes.
• Experience leading a strategic function with significant autonomy, managing resources, and owning organizational outcomes.
• Ability to build trust with technical teams and influence without authority.
• Experience owning meaningful budget or resource decisions in a high-growth or complex organization.
• Experience operating effectively in fast-moving, high-ambiguity environments and making sound decisions with incomplete data.
• Ability to synthesize complex operational and technical concepts for senior and C-level stakeholders.
• Ability to translate high-level business goals into concrete execution plans with broad organizational impact.
• Proven ability to use AI tools and frameworks to optimize technology operations, technical evaluations, and cross-functional workflows.

• Direct involvement in M&A technology due diligence, corporate restructuring, or integration strategy.
