Assignment Desk Editor

Location: Onsite in Miami, FL; must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, field production, and travel as needed is required.

What you will do

• Monitor breaking and developing news across wires, social media, scanners, broadcasts, and online sources; identify coverage opportunities and continuously update stories.
• Generate, research, verify, plan, and develop story ideas for newscasts, digital platforms, special coverage, and newsroom assignments.
• Coordinate reporters, photographers, multimedia journalists, writers, producers, editors, digital teams, and field crews throughout story production.
• Secure guests, newsmakers, public figures, subject matter experts, interviews, visual elements, video feeds, live remotes, and live shots.
• Maintain iNews with crew locations, assignments, and timelines; arrange, download, and supervise incoming video feeds.
• Participate in editorial meetings, support news production and special projects, field produce and travel for major coverage, and manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines.

Requirements

• BS/BA or MA in Communications, Journalism, New Media, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, written and verbal.
• At least 2 years of newsroom experience.
• Strong editorial judgment, knowledge of current affairs, and awareness of national and international events, legal developments, and culturally relevant topics.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects, adapt quickly in breaking-news situations, and meet tight deadlines independently.
• Experience managing multiple social media platforms; basic video editing knowledge; ability to monitor and record multiple video feeds simultaneously.
• Experience with non-linear editing and archive systems; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, iNews, Avid, live feed systems, and social media platforms.
• Must be willing to work onsite in Miami, FL. Ability to stand, walk, bend, type, reach, and sit for up to 8 hours.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. Employment and education verification and a background investigation are required.

Nice to have

• At least 1 year of experience as a Producer and/or Assignment Editor.
• Strong knowledge of city agencies, public safety operations, and key newsmakers.
