TL;DR
Senior Power Systems Engineer (Lunar) (power electronics/space systems): Developing end-to-end power architectures and hardware for Vast’s lunar ecosystem with an accent on energy storage, solar interfaces, fault-tolerant distribution, and operation in radiation, thermal, and dust environments. Focus on designing, qualifying, and validating human-rated power systems through vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, TVAC, and radiation testing.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; full-time position located at the Long Beach site.

Salary: $137,000–$230,000 USD per year in California.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space stations, satellites, lunar and planetary habitats, and other crewed space systems for government, corporate, and private customers.

What you will do

  • Own power system architecture, electronics specification, simulation, schematic capture, PCB design, mechanical packaging, board bring-up, environmental qualification, and integrated system validation.
  • Define power architecture tradeoffs for lunar applications, including energy storage, solar array interfaces, eclipse and survival-mode budgets, and fault-tolerant distribution.
  • Design power conversion, load switching, hot-swapping, conditioning, inrush control, and over-current fault detection circuits for long-duration lunar and cislunar operation.
  • Lead radiation, thermal, dust-mitigation, part-selection, derating, screening, reliability, and failure-analysis activities for power hardware beyond LEO.
  • Own qualification campaigns covering random vibration, shock, thermal cycling, burn-in, TVAC, and radiation testing, and present design, analysis, and test results to stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and help establish power electronics standards, component libraries, and scalable design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience developing power electronics.
  • Ownership of at least one power electronics product from architecture through hardware bring-up and validation.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends during critical mission milestones.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time for customer meetings.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a power electronics emphasis.
  • Experience designing spaceflight electronics and verifying workmanship and operability through random vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC testing.
  • Experience with beyond-LEO, lunar, planetary, high-radiation, or extreme-thermal environments, including radiation-tolerant part selection, derating, and screening.
  • Experience with human-rated or other high-consequence systems involving fault tolerance and single-point-failure retirement.
  • Professional experience with instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Programming experience with MATLAB, Python, C, or C++.
  • Experience with Ethernet, CAN, SPI, I2C, and RS422 serial I/O.
  • Experience with full-lifecycle product development, production transition, and manufacturing support.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time exempt employment with company equity.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Paid time off, paid parental leave, disability insurance, and life insurance.
  • Access to a 401(k) retirement plan, ClassPass credits, personalized mental healthcare, and other discounts.
  • Free snacks, coffee, drinks, and dinner meals, with subsidized lunch and onsite barista service.
