Senior Spacecraft Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. person status and authorization to work in the United States are required due to ITAR-controlled technology.

Salary: $140,333–$202,703 per year, plus eligibility for long-term incentives through stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Design PCB-level electronics through schematic capture, layout, validation, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing test.
• Support avionics architecture trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, device selection, specifications, and roadmap direction.
• Own avionics hardware for satellite, reentry vehicle, and payload systems while supporting GNC, pharmaceutical, mission operations, and integration teams.
• Collaborate with flight software, thermal, GNC, structures, and other cross-functional teams on vehicle-level design impacts.
• Own product acceptance and space-environment qualification testing, including thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI testing, and guide system-level integration tests.
• Perform root-cause analysis on test failures, implement flight-risk mitigations, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of direct electronics hardware design experience, including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and environmental qualification, in aerospace, automotive, or another high-reliability industry.
• Experience contributing to complex electronics systems from design through production or deployment and taking complex PCB designs through fabrication and assembly.
• Advanced PCB design expertise, including high-speed signal integrity, power and grounding, and electromagnetic compatibility.
• Expertise with Altium and/or KiCad EDA suites.
• Strong hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, benchtop digital multimeters, and power supplies.
• Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or another scripting/data-analysis language.
• Experience implementing hardware layers for on-board and over-harness communication protocols, including SPI, RS-422, and 1000BASE-T.
• Experience designing analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuits, load switches, and switch-mode DC:DC converters.

• Industry-leading electronic circuit design and analysis skills.
• General knowledge of physics, mathematics, and chemistry fundamentals relevant to electronics operating in unique environments.
• Understanding of aerospace sensors and actuators, including RTDs, pressure transducers, brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, stepper motors, and rotary/linear encoders.
