Lead, Software Engineering (Embedded Software)

Location: Onsite in Rochester, New York, or Plano, Texas, United States. The position follows a 9/80 schedule: 9 workdays every 14 days, totaling 80 hours, with every other Friday off.

What you will do

• Design, develop, implement, integrate, and test embedded sensor-control software for airborne imaging and EO/IR systems.
• Develop and evaluate hardware-software interfaces, operational performance requirements, and overall system designs.
• Use OMS, UCI, XML Schema, reference designs, and other standards for product development.
• Perform debugging, unit testing, system modeling, simulation, and analysis of complex software.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve subsystem compatibility and interface problems and participate in specification, design, code, and test reviews.
• Provide production support, problem resolution, technical investigations, status reporting, and project prioritization within design specifications and budget restrictions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and at least 9 years of related experience; alternatively, a graduate degree and at least 7 years of related experience.
• Experience participating in software development throughout the design cycle, including major design reviews and architecture reviews.
• Experience with hardware and software integration and testing, including embedded development.
• Experience with DevSecOps and test automation using Python or similar languages.
• Experience with APIs, BSPs, drivers, OpenGL, health and status, and programming for Linux, Windows, and QNX.
• Experience with C++ systems development and understanding of software/hardware co-design, distributed systems design, and software/computer architecture.
• Experience with avionics lifecycle execution.
• Many positions require the ability to obtain a security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens. Conditional offers may require government security investigations and eligibility for classified-information access.

Nice to have

• Control-system modeling with Matlab/Simulink.
• Embedded security and encryption experience.
• Video transport and encoding experience with GigE Vision, H.264/265, MISB, and SMPTE standards.
• Video-processing algorithms experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.
• Working knowledge of Bash/Python, Intel x86, ARM, FPGA, SoC, GPP, GPU, embedded system design, release engineering, change and configuration management, debug/trace analysis, real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, LynxOS, and Integrity, SELinux, software integration, testing, and verification/validation.
• Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Understanding of network storage, Gigabit Ethernet, or InfiniBand.
