Senior/Principal Software Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Design, implement, integrate, and verify mission-critical missile software focused on GNC algorithms, autopilot loops, and flight control laws.
• Translate mathematical flight-dynamics models into high-performance deterministic real-time code using Model-Based Design and MATLAB/Simulink auto-coding.
• Architect, maintain, and expand HWIL environments integrating flight computers, IMUs, actuation systems, sensor suites, and real-time simulation hardware.
• Plan and execute HWIL, software-only, and regression test campaigns, including validation against aerodynamic threats, target profiles, and environmental disturbances.
• Support pre-flight activities, flyout predictions, trajectory simulations, safety analysis, ROZ definition, range safety limits, and mission scripts for live-fire or captive-carry tests.
• Deploy to remote test ranges, proving grounds, and integration facilities to support checkouts, launch operations, anomaly investigation, discrepancy resolution, and post-flight data reduction.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience specifically within aerospace, defense, or missile systems.
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Advanced proficiency in C and C++ for real-time embedded environments, plus familiarity with Python or MATLAB for scripting and analysis.
• Experience developing safety-critical software on RTOS platforms, such as VxWorks or Linux with PREEMPT_RT.
• Strong working knowledge of flight dynamics, 6-DOF simulation, aerodynamics, and control theory.
• Proven experience managing HWIL labs with real-time simulation hardware such as dSPACE, National Instruments PXI/CompactRIO, or Speedgoat.
• Experience with MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet/UDP, ARINC 429, and RS-422 communication protocols.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with safety-critical software development standards such as DO-178C or equivalent military standards.
• Familiarity with Agile workflows, Git or SVN, and requirements traceability tools such as DOORS or Jira.
• Hands-on experience with sensor simulation or seeker-in-the-loop testing.
