Embedded Software Engineer (7+ Years of Experience)

Location: Torrance, CA, United States. Occasional travel to launch and customer sites may be required. Access to classified information or restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information may require security clearance, government authorization, and applicable citizenship or other eligibility requirements. Access to export-controlled information requires eligibility without additional export licensing.

What you will do

• Design and implement reliable autonomous software systems and simulations to validate their precision and dependability.
• Manage software development from design and prototyping through testing, integration, and deployment for mission-critical applications.
• Evaluate test outcomes, investigate issues, and debug hardware/software systems across virtualized hardware, hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle-in-the-loop environments.
• Develop testing tools and collaborate with software, hardware, and multidisciplinary engineering teams on hypersonic missile capabilities, guidance algorithms, and seeker image processing.
• Lead major projects, support testing and operations at launch and customer sites, and improve software standards and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on technical experience through professional work, internships, research, open-source contributions, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with systems programming in C++, Python, Rust, or similar languages and Linux-based development environments.
• Experience with low-level systems such as Linux kernel development, hardware interfaces, or driver development, including UART, I2C, or similar peripherals.
• Ability to work collaboratively across software and hardware engineering domains.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time embedded systems or distributed computing environments on Linux.
• Experience developing high-quality Linux-based C++ software for processors and microcontrollers such as PowerPC, x86, or ARM.
• Proficiency with Bash shell scripting, network troubleshooting, performance analysis using tools such as strace and ftrace, debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing.
• Understanding of computer architecture and networking protocols including TCP and UDP.
• First-principles problem solving, including prototyping to validate design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
