Senior Product Developer (Footwear)

Location: Hybrid role based at the headquarters near Portland, Oregon, United States; onsite four days per week. Travel required 15–25% of the time, primarily between the US and Asia, within Asian countries, and to manufacturing facilities.

What you will do

• Manage footwear development from initial concepts through product confirmation and commercialization for assigned models.
• Develop product specifications, detailed development plans, target timelines, sample requests, and progress reports.
• Provide design input on cost, production, functional components, materials, colors, construction options, and footwear quality.
• Review blueprints, 3D files, technical drawings, rapid prototypes, and molded components for accuracy, functionality, and design integrity.
• Coordinate with design, merchandising, overseas development staff, factories, suppliers, vendors, and product development leadership to resolve issues and maintain schedules.
• Research competitors and source new and innovative materials, components, and production procedures.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of footwear development experience.
• Thorough knowledge of administrative management and supervisory techniques, PC software including spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing tools, the lifestyle footwear industry, and conducting business in Asian countries.
• Effective verbal and written communication with management, staff, factories, and vendors, including communication with countries where English is a second language.
• Ability to use tact, sound judgment, and discretion; identify and evaluate problem areas; and recommend effective solutions.
• Ability to mentor junior staff, assess work, and support professional development.
• Strong time management skills to accomplish challenging objectives and manage a heavy workload.
• Understanding of basic engineering, metric measurements, and blueprints, with good color and texture perception for identifying footwear quality and salability issues.
• Ability to travel 15–25% of the time, primarily between the US and Asia, within Asian countries, and to manufacturing facilities.
• Strong teamwork, relationship-building, strategic partnership, and communication skills, with a flexible approach to varied responsibilities.
