Senior Industrial Designer - TeraWave

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States; U.S. citizenship, nationality, permanent residency, refugee status, or asylum status is required under export control regulations.

Base pay: $145,188.00–$203,263.20 annually for CA and WA applicants; other site ranges may differ.

hirify.global develops reusable space vehicles and systems and is building TeraWave, a satellite communications network for enterprise, data center, and government users.

What you will do

• Lead industrial design for the TeraWave User Terminal, including form factor, surface design, materials, finishes, color, texture, and finish strategy.
• Create concepts, sketches, renderings, 3D models, CAD surface specifications, and design rationale for stakeholder and leadership review.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and RF engineers on manufacturability, structural integrity, antenna performance, thermal management, and technical constraints.
• Design user-facing enclosures, mounting mechanisms, cable management, ports, indicator lights, and branding elements.
• Build and evaluate foam models, 3D prints, and other prototypes for ergonomics, aesthetics, and usability.
• Work with suppliers on finish samples, tooling feasibility, prototype builds, and design validation including fit, finish, drop-test appearance, and weatherability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industrial design experience for consumer hardware products, ideally in telecommunications, networking equipment, consumer electronics, or similar industries.
• Experience taking a product from concept through production across the full product lifecycle.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD and surfacing tools such as Autodesk Alias, Fusion 360, Rhino, or SolidWorks.
• Strong digital and hand sketching and rendering skills.
• Deep understanding of injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal, and other manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of materials and finishes for consumer electronics and outdoor-rated hardware, plus familiarity with DFM/DFA principles.
• Ability to collaborate with mechanical engineering teams and understand thermal, RF, and structural constraints as they relate to industrial design.
• A portfolio showcasing shipped consumer hardware products is required for application.
• Applicants must meet the stated U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience designing outdoor or semi-outdoor consumer hardware, including weatherproof enclosures, antennas, or mounting systems.
• Experience designing products with external antennas or RF-sensitive enclosures.
• Experience with ruggedized or outdoor consumer products and IP-rated enclosures.
