Intern, Fire Protection Engineering

Location: Allen, Texas, United States; internships are available at multiple hirify.global office locations throughout the United States.

Salary: $20–$30 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Develop, modify, and review drawings of fire protection systems and components according to established standards.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and inspection reports that are complete, accurate, and professionally compliant.
• Assist with design problem resolution through field investigations, inspections, detailed design work, checking design calculations, and project coordination.
• Conduct and document basic building code, egress, fire detection and alarm, smoke control, sprinkler, and water supply analyses, including hydraulic calculations.
• Perform calculations for egress capacity, allowable building area, sprinkler water supplies, and smoke control equipment.
• Communicate effectively with project team members, clients, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of engineering principles or construction technology and practices.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Intermediate written and oral communication skills, including report writing, business correspondence, presentations, procedure manuals, and responding to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
• Ability to solve practical problems involving varied concrete conditions with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
• Self-starter with problem-solving and reasoning skills.
• Intermediate personal computer skills, including email, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
