Fire Alarm & Life Safety Construction Administration Engineer (Data Center)

Location: Manassas, Virginia, United States; on-site construction administration with travel to project sites approximately 25% of the time.

What you will do

• Lead technical design for fire alarm, detection, VESDA, smoke control, suppression, and low-voltage life safety systems in mission-critical data center facilities.
• Produce 2D and 3D construction deliverables, including equipment layouts, network diagrams, calculations, and specifications.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects as engineer of record while coordinating with peers, subject-matter experts, and BIM designers.
• Provide on-site construction administration, including punch walks, witnessed system testing, installation support, and commissioning assistance.
• Interface with clients, vendors, authorities having jurisdiction, and code officials to resolve technical issues and maintain compliant project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or related Engineering discipline.
• At least 4 years of professional engineering experience in fire alarm and life safety systems, including direct field experience installing, inspecting, or testing fire alarm systems.
• In-depth knowledge of fire alarm systems and major manufacturers, including Notifier, Edwards, and Xtralis/VESDA.
• Strong command of IBC, IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, and NFPA 70/NEC.
• Experience leading projects, managing resources, and producing construction specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills for client and contractor interactions.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% for site visits.

Nice to have

• Active Professional Engineering license.
• At least 4 years of Autodesk Revit design experience for data center or industrial facilities.
• Knowledge of data center standards and NFPA 75, NFPA 76, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 13.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and estimating or scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects.
