Fire Alarm & Life Safety Construction Administration Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: Manassas, Virginia, United States. Office-based design with on-site construction administration and approximately 25% travel to project sites.

Salary: $99,800–$183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the technical design of fire alarm, detection, VESDA, smoke control, suppression, and low-voltage life safety systems for mission-critical facilities.
• Produce 2D and 3D construction deliverables, including equipment layouts, network diagrams, calculations, and specifications.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects as engineer of record while coordinating with subject matter experts and BIM designers.
• Conduct punch walks, witness system testing, and support installation and commissioning activities.
• Interface with clients, vendors, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, and code officials to resolve technical issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or related Engineering discipline.
• At least 4 years of professional engineering experience with fire alarm and life safety systems, including direct field experience installing, inspecting, or testing fire alarm systems.
• In-depth knowledge of fire alarm equipment from manufacturers such as Notifier, Edwards, and Xtralis/VESDA.
• Strong knowledge of IBC, IFC, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 70/NEC codes.
• Experience leading projects, managing resources, and producing construction specifications.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for project-site visits and communicate effectively with clients and contractors.

Nice to have

• Active Professional Engineer license.
• At least 4 years of Autodesk Revit design experience for data center or industrial facilities.
• Knowledge of data center standards and NFPA 75, NFPA 76, NFPA 2001, and NFPA 13.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and estimating or scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects.
