Database Engineer (Oracle APEX & PostgreSQL Modernization)

Location: Hybrid-remote, with onsite availability as needed in Suitland, Maryland; standard business hours aligned to the Eastern Time Zone. Occasional travel to client sites or meetings may be required.

Salary: $90,000–$125,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Perform Oracle DBA operations including installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Support and maintain Oracle APEX environments, including troubleshooting and optimization of pages, components, forms, and interactive reports.
• Develop and maintain Shell, Python, PowerShell, and similar scripts to automate operations, improve reliability, and support deployments.
• Execute ETL and data migration activities, including migrations from BASS and related systems.
• Support Oracle-to-PostgreSQL modernization, including data model conversion and migration activities.
• Collaborate with application teams, analysts, and DevOps while maintaining documentation, runbooks, security, auditing, and data-handling practices.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional Oracle DBA experience in production environments.
• Hands-on Oracle DBA experience with installation, configuration, patching, backup and recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Oracle APEX experience and direct ETL and data migration experience.
• Strong scripting skills with Shell, Python, and/or PowerShell.
• Experience with version control and structured configuration management using Git-based workflows.
• Experience supporting or participating in Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration efforts.
• Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance; United States citizenship is required for eligibility.
• Excellent attention to detail, responsiveness, and written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting financial systems or financial data workflows.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL administration or application support.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment tools such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
• Experience operating in cloud or hybrid on-premises/cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Relevant database or cloud certifications.
