Data Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, hybrid with 3 days per week in the office.

Base salary: $130,000–$150,000 per year, plus a discretionary performance bonus of 8–12% of base salary.

What you will do

• Design and build scalable data pipelines with dbt, Python, Airflow, and Snowflake for business processes including executive reporting dashboards.
• Own pipeline architecture, performance, schema design, tool selection, and strategic improvements to the data platform.
• Build data quality and observability infrastructure, process and validate internal and external data, and troubleshoot production data issues.
• Write ELT code using Git, automated testing, and automated deployments.
• Lead ad-hoc analysis of customer interactions and collaborate with Software Engineering, DevOps, Marketing, Product, and Leadership.
• Contribute to Tableau reporting, code reviews, design collaboration, knowledge sharing, and improvements to team practices.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of professional data engineering experience.
• Expert SQL skills and experience optimizing queries.
• Production experience with dbt and Python.
• Hands-on experience with Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
• Experience with a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Understanding of the data product lifecycle, standards, and practices, including data cleansing, standardization, parsing, and validation.
• Ability to design systems, lead projects, and communicate clearly with engineers and non-engineers.
• Proficiency with Git or GitHub and command-line interfaces.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes or infrastructure-as-code experience.
• CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Data quality frameworks such as Elementary, Great Expectations, or Monte Carlo.
• Financial services background.
• Advanced Airflow patterns and custom operators.
• Experience with agile development practices and the project lifecycle.
