Development Engineer (Marine)

Location: Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal; willingness to travel as required, minimum 10%

Salary: €27,000–€32,500 gross annual salary, paid in 14 payments; annual performance bonus of up to 8%

What you will do

• Develop 3D surface models for decks, liners and components supporting 5-axis milling, tooling design and manufacturing.
• Support the design and integration of fiberglass, structural, mechanical and electrical systems across new and existing boat platforms.
• Design, engineer and validate hinges, mechanisms, components, hardware, mechanical routing and electrical layouts using 3D models and technical drawings.
• Perform system design verification, prototype testing and validation, and ensure designs meet functional, performance, quality, cost and compliance requirements.
• Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation and Engineering Change Notices, and support sourcing, tooling and product launches.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Product Development, suppliers, Manufacturing and Customer Service teams to resolve technical issues and improve products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related technical discipline; relevant industry experience may substitute for formal education.
• 1–3 years of experience in marine product design, preferably with knowledge of production processes.
• Experience with CAD software; Siemens NX is preferred. SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo or Pro-E are also considered.
• Strong 3D solid and free-surface modelling capabilities.
• Mechanical design and engineering fundamentals, product development and validation, technical drawing creation, root cause analysis and Design for Manufacturing.
• Experience with engineering documentation and change management, technical problem-solving, analytical thinking, attention to detail and decision-making.
• Cross-functional collaboration, communication skills, continuous improvement mindset, and a quality- and customer-focused approach.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Fluent English.
• Willingness to travel as required, minimum 10%.

Nice to have

• Experience within the marine industry and knowledge of production processes.
• Lean Six Sigma certification or experience.
• Experience supporting prototype builds and validation testing.
• Familiarity with Value Analysis / Value Engineering initiatives.
• Boating experience or a passion for the recreational marine industry.
