Senior Software Architect (Technical Lead)

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii; regular on-site collaboration in the San Diego area; work in secure facilities with periodic travel as required.

What you will do

• Lead engineering for the Honolulu development team and turn the program architecture into working software while making local design decisions within the established architecture.
• Review code, document design decisions, and maintain shared interfaces, data models, standards, and API contracts with the National Capital Region team.
• Translate USPACOM operator feedback, UX designs, and Fires SME input into backlog items, technical approaches, estimates, and implementation decisions.
• Deliver releases into secure government environments and ensure recommendations are traceable to their inputs and logic.
• Improve recompute speed so operators can update inputs and receive revised recommendations within their workflow.
• Raise engineering standards through code review, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring.

Requirements

• Ability to maintain required TS/SCI access.
• Ability to drive progress and create clarity in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Hands-on technical leadership experience with engineering teams.
• Ability to collaborate in person and through approved electronic means, participate in extended technical sessions, and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Leadership of engineering teams building distributed, event-driven, or microservice systems while remaining hands-on.
• Experience working within an architecture owned by another technical authority and improving it through interface control documents, API contracts, or shared data models.
• Experience building explainable and auditable software, such as decision-support or agent-orchestration systems.
• Experience delivering software into secure or classified Department of War environments.
• Experience leading engineers alongside designers and domain experts and translating their input into technical decisions.
• Experience with Maven Smart System, USPACOM, or Joint Fires.
• Experience with Go, Java, or Python; React and TypeScript; message-driven architecture; MCP; and API design.
