Expert Backend Engineer (Scala + TypeScript)

Location: Gdańsk, Poland — hybrid, with regular in-studio collaboration in Gdańsk, Wrzeszcz.

Salary: 200–230 PLN/hour + VAT on B2B contract, or 24,500–28,200 PLN gross on UoP.

What you will do

• Build a next-generation passwordless authentication platform used by millions of people worldwide.
• Develop a core part of an identity platform using Scala, TypeScript, and React.
• Help shape the architecture, engineering standards, and ways of working for a new team.
• Design and build scalable backend services and features across the stack.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, share ideas, and use AI tools in daily development work.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production backend services at scale, including experience designing scalable systems.
• Strong and deep knowledge of Scala.
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript and React.
• Very good understanding of functional programming concepts, including pure functions, composition, and algebraic data types, and interest in applying them in practice.
• Deep understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience using AI tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and team collaboration.
• Good knowledge of HTTP, REST APIs, and modern web communication patterns.
• Experience with cloud environments and containers, including AWS, GCP or Azure, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Experience with backend testing approaches and tools, confidence working across the stack, ownership of solutions, and very good communication skills in English and Polish.

• Experience with Node.js.
