HDM Senior Engineer - Early Career (HDD)

Location: Shakopee, United States; onsite work at the Shakopee campus. Travel: none.

Estimated base salary: $94,000–$118,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support the development and integration of head-disk interface and head-media spacing technologies for current and future PMR and HAMR drive platforms.
• Evaluate spacing-control concepts, slider behavior, head-media interaction, tribology, media, and drive performance using mechanical, electrical, materials, and data-analysis principles.
• Analyze engineering data, identify trends, support root-cause investigations, and recommend improvements to performance, yield, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Participate in experiments, data reviews, issue-resolution activities, and improvements to test methods, analysis tools, and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with design centers, component organizations, manufacturing, reliability, and product engineering teams.
• Document technical findings, summarize results, and communicate recommendations to peers, project leads, and management.

Requirements

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Experience analyzing engineering data with Microsoft Excel, JMP, Minitab, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
• Working knowledge of statistics, experimental methods, data visualization, and technical problem solving.
• Familiarity with test automation, data acquisition, scripting, or engineering debugging.
• Data analysis, structured problem solving, clear technical communication, cross-functional teamwork, and willingness to learn advanced HDM and HDD technologies.
• Ability to support Head Disk technology development for PMR and HAMR drives, characterize slider, transducer, tribology, and media technologies, and evaluate head-disk spacing data.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python scripting, data automation, failure analysis, cleanroom, fabrication, material characterization, or reliability and yield investigations.
