Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; other location: Munich, Germany. Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers, including at test ranges and in field environments, is required. EU citizenship is required for security clearance and customer requirements.

What you will do

• Develop, integrate, configure, and deploy hirify.global-powered drone systems from airframe concept through validated flying robot.
• Manage software releases, flash firmware, configure PX4 or adjacent autopilot ecosystems, calibrate sensors, tune ESCs, and perform system bring-up.
• Provide avionics and airframe expertise across autopilot tuning, sensor and payload integration, power systems, and airworthiness considerations.
• Translate customer mission requirements into system architectures and demonstrable solutions built on hirify.globalOS and Skynode.
• Conduct flight testing and resolve integration, flight-readiness, stability, safety, and mission-performance issues during customer trials and demonstrations.
• Collaborate with production, hardware engineering, firmware/software, operations, QC engineering, customers, and operators; document findings and feed requirements into the product roadmap.

Requirements

• Degree in Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
• Working proficiency in C/C++ and Python, including reading, debugging, and patching existing code and writing small tools and scripts.
• Comfort working in Linux environments with the command line, logs, Docker, and basic IP and TCP/UDP networking.
• Hands-on hardware-software integration experience with system bring-up, wiring, connectors, and embedded interfaces including UART, CAN, I2C, and SPI.
• Structured troubleshooting skills to isolate software, hardware, configuration, and RF problems, often under field time pressure.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical issues to customers and operators and reporting actionable findings to engineering teams.
• Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers at test ranges and in field environments.
• EU citizenship required for security clearance and customer requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot, MAVLink, QGroundControl, or mission planning tools.
• UAV flight testing and validation experience in operational environments.
• Experience with datalinks and radio systems.
• Previous customer-facing or field engineering experience, especially with defense or government customers.
• German language skills.
