Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Active Directory)

Location: Hybrid, with regular onsite presence at the corporate headquarters in East Aurora, New York; position listed for Buffalo, NY, United States.

Salary: $130,000–$170,000 annually.

What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap, reference architecture, engineering standards, and lifecycle strategy across Active Directory, Windows Server, Citrix, VMware, storage, backup, disaster recovery, and cyber-recovery platforms.
• Lead architecture, modernization, security, resilience, capacity, and lifecycle initiatives across identity, virtual desktop, virtualization, storage, and recovery environments.
• Provide senior technical escalation support, lead design reviews, document architecture decisions, and establish reusable engineering patterns.
• Maintain hands-on ownership of global Active Directory and Windows infrastructure, including forests, domains, DNS, Group Policy, LDAP, Kerberos, replication, delegation, and domain controller lifecycle.
• Coordinate cross-domain engineering delivery, Program Increment planning, Azure DevOps backlog quality, dependencies, risks, capacity trade-offs, and stakeholder communication.
• Coach engineers and collaborate with cybersecurity, operations, network, application, business, and partner teams while retaining accountability for technical risk and delivery quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Eight or more years of progressive enterprise infrastructure engineering experience in complex, global environments.
• Technical leadership experience across multiple infrastructure domains, including architecture decisions, design governance, project delivery, and technical mentoring.
• Advanced Active Directory engineering experience in global multi-domain or multi-forest environments, including DNS, Group Policy, authentication protocols, domain controller lifecycle, security, and recovery.
• Citrix engineering and architecture experience supporting enterprise virtual application and desktop environments.
• Strong Windows Server engineering and architecture experience, including operating system lifecycle, hardening, automation, and troubleshooting.
• Strong VMware vSphere or comparable enterprise virtualization experience, including availability, lifecycle, capacity, and recovery.
• Working knowledge of enterprise storage, NAS, backup, disaster recovery, and cyber-recovery practices.
• Experience designing secure infrastructure, privileged administration, tiered administration, and CIS-aligned hardening approaches.
• Hands-on PowerShell automation experience.
• Experience with APIs, Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, or business continuity design.
• Strong communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and structured problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix DaaS, Citrix ADC, virtual GPU workloads, or equivalent enterprise end-user computing technologies.
• Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, data center migrations, OT infrastructure, or regulated and compliance-sensitive environments.
• Experience with ITIL, Agile, SAFe, or similar delivery practices.
• Relevant Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, security, or cloud certifications.
