Principal Software Developer (Cloud Platform)

Location: Hybrid, based in Toronto or Montreal, Canada. Relocation is an option. In-person onboarding and/or identity verification may be required.

Salary: CAD 131,000–191,400 base salary annually; offers may exceed this range. Additional compensation may include annual bonuses, stock grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead team-level outcomes, critical business goals, high-stakes initiatives, and complex large-scale projects.
• Plan and deliver projects with unclear milestones by clarifying requirements, managing scope, and monitoring quality and team performance.
• Own platform capabilities end to end, including engineering practices, solutions, quality, deployment, and support.
• Lead technical discussions, transformational initiatives, and incident response, including investigation, resolution, root-cause analysis, and preventive improvements.
• Act as Product Owner when needed, balancing architectural roadmaps, product management requirements, and service improvements.
• Mentor team members, lead technical talent development, and create opportunities for knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Graduate or postgraduate degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of software design, development, and/or consulting experience in cloud systems or web services, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Experience leading the successful delivery of a commercial cloud product.
• Proven ability to lead incident response, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including leading technical discussions and presenting complex ideas to diverse audiences.
• Good understanding of business drivers and ability to explain them clearly; proven ability to mentor and develop technical talent.
• Excellent hands-on Java programming skills and exposure to Spring Boot.
• Experience with SDLC processes and tools, Agile methodologies, and AWS or other cloud providers.
• API development experience with REST, GraphQL, and gRPC; additional programming skills such as Go or TypeScript.
• High expertise in object-oriented design patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD concepts and deployment pipelines such as Jenkins.
• Experience with databases, database design principles at cloud scale, and building scalable cloud systems and services.
