Controls Engineer – Automation & PLC Systems

What you will do

• Develop and implement control-system and equipment improvements using Factory Information Systems data.
• Lead problem-solving activities for equipment performance issues and troubleshoot downtime involving equipment, automation, robotics, and control systems.
• Coordinate resources to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Train manufacturing personnel and plant electricians, and collaborate with maintenance teams, vendors, and process teams.
• Integrate controls with IT and manufacturing systems; use plant monitoring software to review cycle times and equipment performance.
• Review project installations, reprogram equipment for engineering and process changes, maintain automation-program backups, program new machinery and robots, and participate in safety evaluations and risk assessments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of related controls engineering experience.
• Experience with error proofing, Programmable Logic Controllers, troubleshooting and problem solving, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Experience with PLC controllers including Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen-Bradley.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance teams, vendors, and process teams.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, electrical systems, robotics and automation, Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming and troubleshooting, Siemens power line and solution line configuration and programming, and machining and automation equipment controls troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with UL508A requirements and NFPA79 standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
