Android Engineering Team Lead (AOSP)

Location: Remote, must be based in Canada and legally authorized to work in Canada; significant overlap with US business hours required.

Salary: Base compensation of $126,500 CAD, commensurate with experience, plus up to 10% annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, hire, develop and retain a team of 3–5 Android engineers, including 1:1s, goal setting, feedback and performance reviews.
• Plan and prioritize work with client engineering and product leaders, own sprint and roadmap delihirify.global, and run team rituals within client processes.
• Guide the design and development of system and privileged apps for an AOSP-based Android TV product, including the launcher, settings, setup wizard and SystemUI customizations.
• Trace issues from the app layer through the Android framework to hardware, involving ODMs and SoC providers when required.
• Lead Android platform upgrades, AOSP builds, image flashing, releases and OTA update flows while keeping custom platform work maintainable.
• Own production support, incident response, performance and reliability, and report delihirify.global, risks and team health to stakeholders.

Requirements

• BS or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years of Android development in Kotlin and/or Java.
• 2+ years of direct engineering management experience, including hiring, performance management and career development.
• Experience with AOSP code and the Android framework below the app layer, resource-constrained embedded devices, and the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong modern Android development experience with Jetpack Compose and Room.
• Familiarity with repo, Soong/Android.bp, building and flashing images to hardware, activities and services, Binder, permissions and system APIs.
• Experience with TV or non-touch UI development, including Compose for TV or Leanback, D-pad navigation, accessibility and localization.
• Strong debugging skills with adb, logcat, dumpsys, Perfetto, ANR and memory analysis, plus modern Android architecture and some full-stack development experience.
• Must reside in Canada, be legally authorized to work in Canada, and be available for significant overlap with US business hours.

Nice to have

• Android bring-up or experience building system or privileged apps within an AOSP source tree.
• Experience shipping Android-based TVs, set-top boxes or other embedded devices, and customizing launcher, Settings, setup wizard or SystemUI.
• Experience leading major Android platform upgrades, working with TV framework APIs, HDMI-CEC, MediaSession, Media3 or ExoPlayer.
• React Native, JavaScript or TypeScript experience.
• Experience with OTA updates, app distribution, device management, ODMs, SoC vendors or their Android SDKs.
• Experience leading client-embedded, staff-augmentation, consulting or distributed teams.
